Green Team

A vibrant and committed group of students and staff meet regularly to address sustainability issues within the college and to engage with larger social actions on climate change and Earth justice.

As a Good Samaritan school, Santa Maria is called to “steward the Earth and its resources with care”.

In recent years members of Green Team have worked with the College Leadership Team and the College Board to install a 100kw solar system in one section of the school.

Green Team initiatives have also included:

• A College recycling program,
• procurement of college branded keep cups, cutlery and drink bottles
• sustainable food stalls
• ‘All Species Day’ events
• initial planning for a college Indigenous Garden

Green Team members have participated in a range of Earth focused events:

• Schools Strike for Climate
• OzGreen Youth Leading the World Conference
• Climate Justice Academy: Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC)
• Sustainable Schools Program
• Sea Shepherd for education

Green Team has a strong student voice within the College and enjoys strong support from all sections of the school community.
